On DVD: The Fly (1958)

There was once a time when movies were simple, to the point, and very effective. On a recent vacation I had the opportunity to sit down and watch the movie The Fly, the original version from 1958 starring Vincent Price.

This movie ran 94 minutes, but you would never have guessed. It just breezed on by. It started with, essentially, the ending. Nope, Quentin Tarrentino didn't invent that. From there the story is developed. STORY. No filler. No nonsense. All suspense. Moves along nicely. Then it's over. You sit there realizing that they really know how to make movies in the old days. This was perfection. The cast did a great job. The special effects are as expected and feel like an old friend with all the gizmos and dials and flashing lights.

Why they felt the need to remake this movie into a monstrosity starring Jeff Goldblum is quite beyond me. See the original sci/fi horror classic! You'll love it, without a doubt. All aces!
