In Print: The Bourne Objective by Eric Van Lustbader

Robert Ludlum's (TM) The Bourne Objective (Jason Bourne)Despite my previous experiences with these Jason Bourne novels by Eric Van Lustbader I decided to read this latest chapter in the series, The Bourne Objective.

This book picks up DAYS after the conclusion of the previous book, The Bourne Deception. There are layers upon layers of conspiracy, back-stabbing, perfidy, strategy and action. Somehow it all manages to be boring. It just doesn't hold your attention because none of the characters are likable.

It took me months to battle through reading this book. I didn't like the previous Bourne novels by Eric Van Lustbader, and this one suffers the same consequences. Jason Bourne has just gotten TOO smart, and too lucky. It's impossible to read this book and find it credible. At least if the characters were likable you might be interested in their fantastic journeys, but none of them are. They finally established that the characters Soraya and Moira are actually sexy women, but by this point, who cares? I had to endure all those other books and the chicks are finally interesting? Pass.

If you were planning on giving this a shot, I say don't bother. The writing is hackish as Bourne has become too idealized. Almost God-like. It's just not even fun to read because you know Bourne will just outsmart everyone and get out of some tight squeeze to save the day.

By the way, they killed off Arkadin AGAIN at the end of the book, but I'm certain he'll be in the next one, The Bourne Dominion, that's already on preorder. The evil new villain introduced in this book will attempt to take over the world and only Jason Bourne the rogue CIA agent can stop.

Puh-lease.

Spare me.
