In the cinema: TRON: Legacy 3D

Tron LegacyIn 1982 Disney brought us TRON. Who would expect that nearly 30 years later a sequel would come out? Last weekend the #1 movie in the land was TRON: Legacy and I was one of the contributors to the box office take.

Tron Legacy starts off in the current day with Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund). He's the heir to the company that his missing father (Kevin Flynn - Bridges) created in the first movie. When a strange page appears over Alan's (Boxleitner) beeper, Sam goes to investigate his father's arcade and discovers a secret lab. As you would expect, that's when he gets zapped into The Grid.

The rest of the movie is about Sam trying to survive as he gets out of the grid. He meets some villains like Clu (also Bridges), Rinzler (Tron made evil by Clu!), and Zuse (Michael Sheen). He meets some hotties like Gem (Beau Garrett) and Quora (Olivia Wilde) and of course, his father who was trapped in The Grid for the last 20 years.

All in all, I'd call this a fun movie. It had some great action sequences. The plot was rather simple. Daft Punk put together a great soundtrack and made a cool cameo (the DJs at Zuse's club!). Most of the movie was NOT in  3D and it didn't need to be released as such. At least 3D movies have gone down in price. And with that, I'd call this movie fun to watch if you like sci-fi. If you don't, you'll probably hate it.

It's not an intellectual movie, but definitely fun to watch.
Thanks Steve, take care!
