Review Tuesday: THE BOYS

The Boys
In a world that super heroes exist, there is substantial collateral damage. THE BOYS attempt the hold them responsible for their misdeeds.
I've been reviewing a lot of horror stuff lately. I'm taking a break from that to discuss THE BOYS. From the moment I saw the first trailer for this show I knew I needed to see it. It stars Karl Urban! What more do you need?

The show starts with Hughie (Jack Quaid), a young man in a dead end job without the motivation to change his position in life, strolling with his girlfriend Robin (Jess Salgueiro) when she gets hit by the superhero A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) and is liquefied.

It turns out that the superheroes of the world are managed by a company called VAUGHT. Superheroes don't just do things for the good of it. It's all about positive image so their movies, shows, and merchandise sells. There's a massive profit motive. So the company offers to buy Hughie's silence on the matter for $45,000. Billy Butcher (KARL URBAN) confronts Hughie and offers him a chance at revenge. This begins Hughie's adventure from big nobody to hero killer.

I don't want to give up any other potential "spoilers" because I want you to go home and see this AMAZON ORIGINAL series. What I will say is that the cast is PERFECT. The special effects are impressive. The story makes sense, perhaps too much sense if you ever thought about what super heroes would really be like if they existed. The episodes are around a full solid hour each, so you get a lot of entertainment from the eight-episode first season. They just wrapped up main filming for Season 02, and should have new episodes up mid-2020, so you might consider watching the first season to make sure they keep this going.
