Turtle Thursday: Eggy Wegg

Snappy

I noticed that Snappy (pictured above) has been acting strangely lately. She's usually feisty and active and suddenly turned sedentary and mellow and basking frequently. When you see your adult female red ear sliders transition in behavior like that, it may be a signal that she's getting ready to lay eggs. If I had the proper set up, I would try to capture her clutch, but I don't

How to allow your female to lay eggs safely:
Place a bin with sand inside a box. Place female in the bin and close up the box. In the darkness the female will feel safe and will lay the eggs in the sand. If you don't she will lay the eggs in the water. The moment an egg is laid in water it drowns and dies.
