Jacob's Ladder
(1990)
One man's descent into madness... or is it?
This is a movie I had meant to watch for YEARS and finally got to it a little while ago but never got around to reviewing it.
Jacob (Tim Robbins) is a Vietnam Vet haunted by his past and driven to find out what happened. However, with each twist and turn, his life seems to transition into something else. What's going on here? It's definitely all tied into his service in Vietnam. Probably some US experiment causing massive aggression in the troops. Something referred to a Ladder, and Jacob's Ladder was exceptional. Or was it?
This movie is a brilliant in its imagery and storytelling. The twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat right up to the amazing surprise ending. It's definitely one of those films that has you sitting there trying to reconcile and digest all that you just took in, and the satisfaction of enjoying something so profound. Highest recommendation!
