When a teen joins in on underground mecha battles on a space colony, things take a strange turn. 

I don't get to watch much Japanese animation. I just don't have time to binge watch a long series. But when Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX came to AMAZON PRIME and only ran twelve episodes, and I saw all the strange designs coming out of it, I decided to give it a shot.

 

Right off the bat this show had a major problem that I have with a LOT of anime: 

THE CHILDREN ARE THE BESTEST EVAR!

Ugh! There's underground mecha fighting and this little girl, despite never being in a cockpit before is better than EVERYONE! Plus, her backup dude is flying the RED GUNDAM. The fabled mobile suit used by Char Aznable to win the war! But Char vanished? How did this emo kid get his hands on it? How is he so good too? 

 

The show jumps around a lot. The exposition scenes with Char during the war are great. You figure out quickly that this is some alternate universe that Zeon won the great war. Apparently, without their great weapon, Gundam: The White Devil, Zeon was able to combine their superior high-mobility technology with the advanced weapons systems of the Federation's flagship mobile suit and win the war. Char, however, vanished before the end of the war, along with his mobile suit. So the re-appearance of thew Red Gundam has piqued the interest of several officer. 

 

The little girls and the emo dude are all bummers. Some of the mobile suit re-designs are pretty cool while others are seriously WTF. Why is this thing that looks exactly like a GM called a Gelgoog??? That aside, the Char storyline makes it worthwhile. When they finally reveal what this alternate storyline is really all about, the show gets better, and the ending is perfect.
