Except...
...for panhandlers. There have been too many stories that these people are faking it. Some examples?
1. I used to watch a guy leave work across the street from my wife. He would then go around pretending to be deaf and sticking his hand out for money.
2. There used to be a guy panhandling by my office. One day I saw him at his apartment in Sunnyside, Queens.
3. There was a lady who used to panhandle a couple blocks from my office. The newspaper caught her packing up and jogging to her Madison Avenue apartment.
And this is only the tip of the iceberg. The truth is that people in general are stupid and fall for it, so fakes come out in droves. As a result, none of them get my money.
