Why did I listen to Zeus?

A couple weeks ago I did a lot of work on my car. One of the jobs was flushing the cooling system. Previously I used a cooling system flush to remove contaminants, crusts, debris, and calcification from the cooling system. That's vital, you know, because that's what jams things up, reduces circulation and causes overheating.
This mechanic my brother-in-law grew up with told us that we'd be far better off NOT using a flush. Just run water through the system a couple times. That's all they do in his garage. In fact it's AGAINST the rules to use a chemical flush.
So I did as he said. Rinsed the system out with water a couple times and filled up with antifreeze. Wihin a week the car if running hot again. The antifreeze is totally polluted, and milky from calcification. So now I get to flush the system out again. This time I'm using a REAL flush, and rinsing the system out thoroughly afterward. I should've known better. Garages NEVER do a good job on a flush. It just takes too long to do it right.
