On DVD: Starship Troopers II

The original book by Robert Heinlein, Starship Troopers, is extraordinary literature. Written about 40 years ago it was visionary to say the least. His concepts and depictions were nothing short of brilliant. He even make the most mundane military tasks come to life vividly.

Unfortunately, the movie Starship Troopers was a real let down. And to live up to that legacy, Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation, is also disappointing. The bugs are as fierce as ever, and the acting and story managed to get even stupider. The troops are completely disorganized. They nearly run up to fight the bugs hand to hand and then wonder why they are getting their butts handed to them. The bugs have a new plan for takeover: bodysnatcher bugs that are transmitted through the mouth and controls the person. Essentially the person dies, but the bug replaces the brain and spine of the victim and controls him like a puppet. Interesting concept and special effects, but the characters were so cliche and dump. The blond that spends almost too much time naked trying to gain more victims is about the only part worth watching. That's Kelly Carlson.

Annoying movie. Pretty much a waste of time. But if you want to know more about it, look here:
