In the cinema: Batman Begins

I know it's been out awhile, but I only got to see it last night with my wife. We walked in with no expectations and little knowledge of Batman lore. My wife never cared for the comics ever, and I was never a reader of Batman.

The theater wasn't nearly as full as I expected it to be. It seemed that everyone was across the hallway at War of the Worlds, which was packed. Of course, we still had the obligatory fat lady in front of us passing all sorts of foul gases and the lady with the kids who kept chattering throughout the 2+ hours of the movie.

Despite all that, we really liked it. It wasn't only action; there was a lot of story going on and it really kept your interest. Whether or not it actually has anything to do with the real Batman story, his roots, etc., I don't know. But I must say, I don't care either. They made this into a great movie. American Psycho, Christian Bale, was a great Batman / Bruce Wayne. He's a very compelling actor. The rest of the cast was fine too. The dude who played the Scarecrow was very effectively creepy. Great special effects coupled characters you feel intensely about, be it love or hate, keeps you with the movie for the 2 hours and 20 minutes. It just doesn't feel long when you are engrossed like the way this movie drags you in. The end is left open for a sequel, which I'm looking forward to.
If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend it. Bale is a very compelling actor.
