It was on the day I went to the DMV. I was running a little behind schedule by about an hour. I was making all my usual connections. I hop the N Train at Queensborough Plaza. I was standing near the door working on a logic puzzle when I noticed something.
Seated about five feet from me was a girl with horribly scarred arms. I was losing my concentration on my game as I homed in on this person.
She was a young girl, maybe twenty or so. Blonde. Light eyes, I can't remember the exact color, but I remember thinking they were big and beautiful. The face of an angel. Her arms were covered with scars from the wrist up past the elbow. Her left shoulder was adorned with a huge tattoo with some stupid statement along the lines of "take me as I am." That statement was dragged out into a paragraph so it took up entirely too much real estate on on her lovely young pink flesh. It was certainly a terrible tattoo.
As I looked at these scars I wondered what went so terribly wrong in her life that she would mutilate herself so? Life isn't easy for anyone. Reach out to a friend who's willing to listen. Embrace those who love you, and love them back. Don't worry about the world, and live your life.
This tale kinda reminds me of a song:

This tale kinda reminds me of a song:
Bleed Like Me
by Garbage
Avalanche is sullen and too thin
She starves herself to rid herself of sin
And the kick is so divine when she sees bones beneath her skin
And she says:
Hey baby can you bleed like me?
C'mon baby can you bleed like me?
Chris is all dressed up and acting coy
Painted like a brand new Christmas toy
He's trying to figure out if he's a girl or he's a boy
He says:
Hey baby can you bleed like me?
C'mon baby can you bleed like me?
Doodle takes dad's scissors to her skin
And when she does relief comes setting in
While she hides the scars she's making underneath her pretty clothes
She sings:
Hey baby can you bleed like me?
C'mon baby can you bleed like me?
Therapy is Speedie's brand new drug
Dancing with the devil's past has never been too fun
It's better off than trying to take a bullet from a gun
And she cries:
Hey baby can you bleed like me?
C'mon baby can you bleed like me?
JT gets all fucked up in some karaoke bar
After two drinks he's a loser after three drinks he's a star
Getting all nostalgic as he sings "I Will Survive"
Hey baby can you bleed like me?
C'mon baby can you bleed like me?
Hey baby can you bleed like me?
C'mon baby can you bleed like me?
You should see my scars
You should see my scars
You should see my scars
You should see my scars
Try to comprehend that which you'll never comprehend
Try to comprehend that which you'll never comprehend
Just try to comprehend that which you'll never comprehend
Try to comprehend that which you'll never comprehend
You should see my scars
You should see my scars
