If you've read my blog previously you'll already know that I'm a fan of the movie UNDERWORLD. The sequel is due out in another month, so in the meantime I decided to re-read the novelization of the movie by Greg Cox.
I thought the movie was great. It's one of the few movies that doesn't look at the vampire / werewolf mysticism with a foolish, childish, hokey point of view. There are actual "scientific explanations" for these immortal anomalies. The extended version of the movie fills in more details than the original theatrical release. I highly recommend seeing it. But if you'd like even more clarification, you need to read the book.
The book has a couple additional scenes, and much more detail and background. For instance, everyone who reads it always tells me, I had no idea that it takes place in Budapest! That aside you get clearer images and explanations of what goes on in the movie. The book is well written, but not written in a way that makes it necessary to carry a dictionary to follow.
A good job with a good tale.
Next I'll be reading book two: UNDERWORLD: BLOOD ENEMY. I've read that one already, as well. Then when the novelization for UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION arrives I'll be up to date.
