In the US, today is Pearl Harbor Day. Today day we remember the day the Japanese cowardly attacked the US Naval Base at Pearl Harbor without notice, without reason. To all the men who lost their lives on that early morning, you'll never be forgotten.

We should never forget (my grandfather fought in that war)and yes such an attack was extremely lowly (war in general shows how much we as humans need to evolve yet)but it is also crucial to forgive. My grandfather finally quit using that embarrasing term (Japs) when he referred to the Japanese people, and at one point drove a Honda for a while (and why not, they're damn good cars). I think about some of my friends who are Japanese and how much they've helped me, as well as my young Japanese students and see how they mingle with stundents of other ethnic backgrounds (our school is very diverse) and it makes me happy. I also see the Japanese offerings of peace (the cherry blossom trees here) and hope it will continue to last. While it's important to never forget history I think most of us can agree that it's even more important to be able to forgive and look ahead to better days.
