Since I was planning on reading the first tale of Robert Langdon by Dan Brown in Angels & Demons, I had to read the second tome The DaVinci Code. Plus my wife was voicing interest in seeing the movie this week. I wasn't about to see the movie for one of the most talked about books of the day without first reading it. Not to mention several friends highly recommended the book, so I took it with me for vacation reading.
Just like Angels & Demons, The DaVinci Code starts up with excitement and the next thing you know you're into the book by about one hundred pages. This is quite a feat for someone who generally likes to read very slowly. I spend a lot of time visualizing, but this book kept me riveted. I couldn't wait to turn the page and see what twist awaited me there. There were PLENTY of twists. This time the conspiracy is about the true meaning of the Holy Grail. It's not a cup as many believe. It's Mary Magdalene. An entire false history is brought up, and a church cover up of the married life of Jesus with his wife Mary and his CHILD! It's a race to see the good guys can get to the "Grail" before the bad guys. And you WILL be surprised who the bad guys REALLY are!
Very clever writing. Not pretentious. Easy to follow, fast to read and it was a pretty fun trip. If you decided you were going to steer clear, think it over. Give it a whirl. You'll be glad you did.

I finished reading it a couple of weeks ago. Very entertaining indeed, but I did guess who the bad guy was.
The movie (IMO) is very disappointing though.
