In Print: For Your Eyes Only by Ian Fleming (1960)

For Your Eyes Only is a collection of James Bond short stories, and at this time, most of the titles should be familiar as they were used for Bond films. I'll go over each story briefly...

From A View To A Kill: When a military motorcycle messenger carrying sensitive documents turns up dead with his parcel missing, it's up to James Bond to fibure out the conspiracy and put it to an end.

For Your Eyes Only: When acquaintences of M's in Jamaica are killed, Bond is sent to Canada to assassinate those responsible.

Quantum of Solace: When James Bond jokes that he would like to marry a stewardess, he opens the door to a long story that would make him think twice about that quip.

Risico: When Bond meets with a double agent in the field, he finds out that the man really isn't a double at all!

The Hildebrand Rarity: While on holiday James joins a friend on a snorkeling excursion to find a rare fish for a vicious nasty rich American man who manages to offend everyone on his yacht. When the man turns up dead, Bond has to make the problem disappear while trying to figure out who was responsible.

By nature, James Bond books are short and to the point. All meat, no filler. Quick reads. So Fleming took a chance and knocked out some short tales that get to it even quicker and more simply. Hey, they can't all be big mysteries that require investigation. So you can read most of these in a single seating, or draw them out as far as you like. But they all have that distinct 007 flavor that Ian Fleming knew how to sprinkle so well. Definitely a fun book, especially for a Bond fan, or for someone wanting to test the waters.
