When this CD arrived, FOR THE STRUGGLE by IN THE CINEMA, I wanted to listen to it immediately. I really liked the gimmick of color in your own album cover. Very imaginitive, so I expected nothing less than very imaginitive from the music.
I wasn't let down! They describe themselves as a beat-driven folktronic duo, blending classic acoustic tones and ambient electronica. What that means is that there are many layers of goodness in every one of the fourteen tracks.
Where many albums go wrong, and is where this album goes RIGHT, is that the instruments sound distictly different from one song to the next. To me, this is a big detail when it comes to drums. Being a drummer I know that alternate tunings can help a song, and I noticed variations in the sounds.
The production is great -- really polished. The levels are all perfect and nothing is muddied up. I was headed to Brooklyn and I listed to the CD about four times to really soak in all the rich sound. I thoroughly enjoyed the smooth folktronic electronica of this duo. Major kudos for making such a great record!
