Review Tuesday: Evanescence (Deluxe CD/DVD) 2011

Towards the end of last year EVANESCENCE put out a new album with little fanfare. It kinda snuck up and came out and there it was. I got it for Mrs. Bax0jayz for Christmas and only just NOW gotten around to reviewing it.

This is the third studio album from Evanescence. There are NONE of the original members left on this record but Amy Lee. Without her distinct voice, would it even be Evanescence? While you go and ponder that, this is more of what the fans love the band for. Amy's voice is gorgeous as ever. The mix of goth, rock, and the angelic vocals blends together for another well written album. What's new is a hint of some new sounds in there. There are some very Lacuna Coil sounding guitar lines on this record, and I wouldn't blame them for it. A decade ago Evanescence took the metal genre by storm, and Lacuna Coil, which had been around for years prior, slip into the spot of best female metal singer. You gotta play catch-up, which I think was done very effectively on this album. There are new sounds, but distinctly Evanescence.
The track list:
1. What You Want 3:41
2. Made Of Stone 3:33
3. The Change 3:42
4. My Heart Is Broken 4:29
5. The Other Side 4:05
6. Erase This 3:55
7. Lost In Paradise 4:42
8. Sick 3:30
9. End Of The Dream 3:49
10. Oceans 3:38
11. Never Go Back 4:27
12. Swimming Home 3:43
13. New Way To Bleed (Bonus Track) 3:46
14. Say You Will (Bonus Track) 3:43
15. Disappear (Bonus Track) 3:06
16. Secret Door (Bonus Track) 3:53
In all I'd call this a good record. Better than the first record, but the second still remains their best work in my mind. Evanescence is still a very good record. Worth getting, especially the Deluxe Edition for the extra tracks.
