We tried to get in to see TED on opening night but it sold out while we were waiting to buy tickets! That was our first suggestion that this movie would be big. It went on to come in #1 in ticket sales that weekend (It opened June 29) blowing all studio estimates out of the water.
TED is the story of a boy with no friends who makes a wish that this teddy bear would come to life so they can be life long friends. It starts off with John Bennett as a child, then transitions to him at 35 years old, still depending on this bad influence bear.
This movie is a rated R comedy that was written, directed and also starred Seth MacFarlane, but you never see him as he's the voice of TED. The other stars, Marky Mark Wahlberg (as John) and the stunning Mila Kunis (Lori) do an excellent job. The dirty jokes come fast and furious. Also, if you pay attention the movie is full of pop culture references. What might be the biggest pay off? Patrick Stewart as the narrator. The copy he reads is killer and he gets the first big laugh of the movie, and you don't even see him!
The movie is about the adventures of John and Ted as they try to get their stuff together and act like proper adults. The Ted sex scenes will make you ROFL! The animation is SEAMLESS. The Boston accents are appropriately awful. An absurdly large portion of the movie revolves around that cheesy 80s movie FLASH GORDON.
It's not very uplifting, but definitely appeals to your low-brow side of your funny bone. All in all, it was a ton of fun and anyone who can handle some potty humor (literally!!!) should get a kick out of this different sort of romantic / buddy comedy. And did I mention it has Mila Kunis? She's easy on the eyes for sure! Check it out!
