Review Tueday: Django Unchained

Originally I had no intention of seeing this movie, DJANGO UNCHAINED. I feel that Tarantino is hack championed by the fools who go along with his delusions of grandeur. However, some friends wanted to see the movie and we had nothing better to do, so why not?

With the help of a German bounty hunter, a freed slave sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner.

If you heard that the "n-word" is used excessively, it's not. The time and place of this film is pre-Civil War US down in the South. What other word did they use for the slaves?

There is an enormous amount of cartoonish violence. For instance, anytime anyone gets shot there is a geyser of blood spurting out all over the movie, with little regard for angles or directions of shots.

The acting was mostly very good, and the characters were developed well. The good guys are very likable, while the villains are revolting.

For a Tarantino movie, I found it very polished and watchable despite it's nearly three hour length. It goes by, not fast, but at a good pace and your interest is kept on the screen. Some clever writing but you have to wonder how much, if any of it, was historically accurate.

My favorite part was Tarantino's death scene. That was spectacular.

It's on it's way out, so see it sooner than later, or just wait for it on DVD or TV.
