Review Tuesday: JUDGE DREDD: THE COMPLETE CASE FILES 03

I reviewed the Case Files 01 and 02 already. Here's the third collection of Judge Dredd from 2000 AD.

JUDGE DREDD: THE COMPLETE CASE FILES 03

This is the third compilation of the Dredd comics from 2000 AD Progs. Under this cover you have the strips from Progs 116-154, the years 2101 through 2102.
In a post-apocalyptic world, the US is reduced to two of Mega-Cities, containing nearly 500 million citizens each on either coast. To speed up the legal process a policing force of JUDGES enforce the law. One Judge will, on the spot, be Judge, Jury, and if it fits the crime, Executioner. We get to follow the adventures one of the most feared and by-the-book Judges, Joseph Dredd, as he does his job upholding the law.
This edition of the case files includes the first look at Judges from the SovBlock Megacity (very Cold War stuff!), the introduction of Judge Death and Judge Anderson, as well as the Father Earth epic. Of course, there are many clever tales in between. The attack of the mutant spiders from the Cursed Earth and the Blood of Satanus are a couple memorable stories amongst the pages. While Dredd was already well defined and set in his ways, you see how set in his ways the character truly is (eg, how Dredd dealt with an aging Judge Minty). He's smart. He's tough. He's the LAW! He's so by the book that he makes you laugh at times. Great stuff!
