LOVECRAFT COUNTRY
by Matt Ruff
A man discovers a secret hidden in his bloodline that leads to adventure and danger.
Set during the turbulent 1950s, LOVECRAFT COUNTRY is a book with clear Lovecraftian inspiration. It's almost written like a collection of short-stories, but they are all related and come together towards the end.

Atticus is a central character. As the only blooded descendant of  Titus Braithwhite, although by way of a slave, he is the key for a new wave of cultists to try to bring back natural philosophies. So the trick is for Atticus to try to survive the supernatural events hey face while trying to avoid the Adamites, and on a lesser scale, the systemic racism that existed during those years.

This is not the first Lovecraftian story written that took advantage of what many considered the [sometimes] racist literature of HPL. While the stories in LOVECRAFT COUNTRY dealt with racist themes, it wasn't overwhelming the overall strange story of sorcery and occultism.

I found the pages clever and rewarding to read through. The delicate facets of the story wound together to make the fabric of a very interesting universe of horrid bad guys and brave heroes. I liked at far more than teh series that shares some details and title as this book.
