The Pope's Exorcist
(2023)
The Pope sends his chief exorcist, Father Gabriele Amorth, on a mission in Spain.
There have been so many exorcist movies over the years. I usually wonder if they would try to tie them in with the legendary film from the 1970s. This one is about the the real-live Chief Exorcist of the Pope, Father Gabriele Amorth, who served the Vatican from the 1980s until fairly recently. This Movie is based on one of this books: An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories; by Father Gabriele Amorth.

Horror movies usually pique the interest of Mrs Bax0jayz, so it didn't take a lot to get her to agree to see this movie. The movie starts right off with Father Amorth (Russell Crowe) doing his thing. The next thing you know he's being questioned by a panel from the Vatican about his procedure and theatrics and the wisdom of it all.

Meanwhile, in Spain, a single mother and her two children are settling into an Abbey they have inherited and something goes wrong. The Pope dispatches Amorth to handle the situation.

I found the movie mostly entertaining. The story is involved and goes back CENTURIES. Father Amorth breaks the tension with jokes. The trouble is that a lot of the movie is either in Latin, Italian, or Spanish and Mrs Bax0jayz HATES subtitles. Between that and the inconsistent special effects, it hurt the film. It is one hour and forty three minutes, so those aspects can really hurt your outlook given the play time. To me? I found it watchable. Not a bad horror film, could've used a little more polish, however.
