Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
(2014)
A decade after the simian flu wipes out the majority of human life, apes and humans must interact again, but with reluctance.
Yeah, I am late to this one too. I have been meaning to see this ever since it came out, but never got around to it until recently.
After the events of the previous movie, the apes were living in peace in the woods outside of Los Angeles under the rule of Caesar. They developed their own world and culture and seemed perfect, until humans stumbled into their territory. That's when things go south.
Apparently there is a colony of survivors in the city, but with fuel running low, they need a new source for electricity, namely, the hydroelectric plant at the local damn. The trouble is that the damn is in ape territory. Apes are as cautious of the humans as the humans are of the apes. Afterall, many apes endured torture at the hands of humans. Humans were nearly made extinct by an ape virus.
Of course, a scared human drew first blood and broke the fragile peace. The rest of the movie is about how a team of humans, led by Malcolm (Jason Clarke) and the apes led by Caesar (Andy Serkis) attempt to develop a trust while treacherous forces are working behind the scenes against them.
This is a very clever story, and better plot than you would expect. The special effects are SEAMLESS. The cast is great. If you have been dragging your feet, too, I suggest that there is no time like the present to catch up.
