Double Review Tuesday: ROBOT JOX (1989), ROBOT WARS (1993)

 

 

ROBOT JOX

1989

In a future world, wars are outlawed and disputes are settled with one on one battles of giant robots. 

I remember getting a call from my friend. It must have been late 1990 when I was on break from college. Have you heard of this movie? ROBOJOX! It's a live action movie about giant battling robots! We HAVE to go see it! So we DID! When we got to the theater in NYC another one of our friends happened to be showing up to see the same film!

 

Wars are outlawed. To settle international disputes nations would build giant robots with an array of armaments for one on one combat and to the victor, goes the soils. The movie is cheesy but fun. It has a coherent plot and it makes sense. Not a great movie, but it is a fun movie. 

 

 

 

ROBOT WARS

For a change, I just can't figure out what to write as a tagline for a movie. This movie is considered an unofficial sequel for ROBOT JOX even though they are completely unrelated. Apparently there's some shit in the future  that lead to the banning of "mega robots." There's a rumor of one being hidden, but no one knows for sure. There does happen to be a scorpion-like mechanized walking machine that's used to cross the desolation. The villainous Centros captured the scorpion so they can go searching for that fabled hidden mega-robot. Guess what? The cheesy annoying good guy finds it and goes toe to toe with the Centros and wins! 

 

This is a bad movie. Sometimes movies are so bad that they get good, but I am not sure if this applies here.
