Last Friday was the series finale for the Fox series DOLLHOUSE. The show ran two seasons. It might've been able to go longer but the intention of the show didn't surface until the second season, and already after most viewers bailed out on the series. Even Eliza Dushku fans were getting tired of a show that was, essentially, just her as the character Echo performing various roles and lots of costume changes.
I think the biggest problem with this series was the long period of character development. The entire first season and part of season two were dedicated to laying down the foundation. By that time people lost interest in the show, which appeared pointless, and FOX cancelled the show. At that point Joss Whedon ramped it up so the series can be completed by the last episode.
The concept as interesting, but if the show started concentrating on the evil corporation sooner it might've saved the series. Too bad, some of the characters were getting to be enjoyable to watch. I have to hand it to Whedon, he did a nice job of tying up all the loose ends in the finale.
