Hellraiser
[2022]
A junky ends up unleashing pain and misery upon her friends and family when she tries to steal a relic.
In the last hand full of years a bunch of classic horror films have seen reboots so it was no surprise to see HELLRAISER getting the same treatment.
This time around, a trashy looking junky needing money goes with her shifty boyfriend to steal the contents of a shipping container. Much to their chagrin, the shipping container contained a safe, that contained an old wooden box, that contained some curious brassy CUBE. Deflated, these two awful people leave the scene of the crime with this odd artifact. It turns out this thing is a puzzle box that unlocks hell and the painful realm of the cenobites.
The rest of the movie is about how this junky, Riley (played almost too well by Odessa A'zion) gets everyone she knows and loves dragged into the violent and hellish clutches of the cenobites.
The Good...
The effects were excellent. The cenobites, while, smaller than previous incarnations, were still horrific. The overall concept was pretty good.
The Bad...
Most of the "good guys" were rather repellent and you really develop no attachment to then, therefore don't care when they get killed. The story drags quite a lot at points. The movie could have benefited from some better writing and editing. I mean, the cenobites were able to grab Nora from the back of a moving van, but couldn't get through a cage in a building in which they have already killed people previously???
Mrs. Bax0jayz and I had seen this movie a while ago and I had forgotten to review it. Seems that this movie is THAT forgettable. However, I had recent;y watched this again with a friend that brought back my memories and thoughts of this film.
Bottom line? I would call this okay. It definitely has some serious weak points, but still has other aspects making it watchable.
