Radiohead Live Videos

With the official retail release of their In Rainbows coming on January 1st , the Oxford , UK band have also been keeping busy with their “Thumbs Down Webcast” as of late. Thom Yorke said of the episodes, "This is Thumbs Down cause it's ... [holds thumbs down]... We're gonna play some music as we can still stand up. This is our way of celebrating the fact that we’ve finished a record. We're been doing some stupid stuff the past few weeks knocking some things together. Don't expect any high quality cause there isn't any.” The band can be seen performing the first single from the album, “Bodysnatchers,” and another stand out track, “Jigsaw Falling Into Place,” below.

Onesidezero announces more dates including 2008 European tour with Adema

Los Angeles based Onesidezero has added more tour dates in support of their recently released self-titled sophomore album. The group will play a series of West Coast dates to round out the year, including a spot on 104.7 The Edge's "Not So Silent Night" show with Atreyu, Five Finger Death Punch and Fair To Midland.
Onesidezero will kick off 2008 with a European tour alongside Adema and Re:Ignition which is scheduled to begin February 27, 2008 in Hamburg, Germany. More cities and dates will be announced soon.
"I think I can speak for all of us in saying FINALLY! We love touring! We've seen most of the United States and Canada several times and it's been awesome. That being said, we're ready for Europe," says Onesidezero drummer Rob Basile. "Europe has produced so much amazing music and art, and I can't wait to experience that first hand. Personally I love history, and good beer, so I can't think of a better place to go. It's also going to be a pleasure hitting the road again with Adema, as we've toured with them on two separate occasions in the past, and Adema's live sh ow is amazing and they're great guys."
"We are really excited to finally be getting our ass's overseas and are grateful to Tiefdruck-Musik for giving us this opportunity," adds frontman Jasan Radford. "2008 is starting to look like a great year for Onesidezero and thank you all for the support!"
Onesidezero 's Ulrich Wild (Static-X, Stabbing Westward, Taproot) produced sophomore album was released through Corporate Punishment Records . The album's first single, "My Confession", has been picking up steam at radio with the track receiving steady rotation on XM Radio's Squizz channel and Los Angeles based KROQ.
Press has also jumped at the chance to praise the band's new album as Kotori Magazine said, " features a cosmopolitan mixture dyed pink with a nice spike of post-Gen-X Rossdale and pre-Soundgarden Cornell while leaving plenty of room for what fans and future music listeners will know as that trademark Onesidezero sound." While CelebrityCafe.com said that the album "might look like your typical hard rock record but if listeners sit back, analyze and take in each song, they will discover that is far from the truth."

Onesidezero Tour Dates (more TBA)

Turtle Thursday: Miscalculation

Silent Bob Basking on his new floating log.

He is a Texas Dark Phased Diamondback Terrapin.
I recently set up a third tank for my herd of turtles. This tank is the playground for our littlest guy, Silent Bob. He's not a tiny hatchling anymore, but he's not big enough to go in with the turtles in the 125 gallon tank, and no one can tell how Roxy would welcome him. So to play it on the safe side I set up a more stable environment for him consisting of the following:

  • A good sized plastic storage bin.
  • Two light sources, one with a heat bulb, the other with a compact full spectrum bulb.
  • Fluval 304 canister filter.
  • Zoo Med floating turtle log, size XL.
For a one year old turtle, this is plenty. He has water about a foot deep to swim in. He has the floating log to play in, around, and bask upon. A filter capable of keeping a tank far larger clean. Plenty of light and warmth. Yep. Everyday is like a vacation for this little guy.

Ooops!

A major miscalculation. What happens when you have the water too warm and a lot of light? ALGAE! So now I'm battling algae, a water born mossy substance that's more of a nuisance than harmful. But if allowed to go crazy (like it did while we were away for a week on vacation) it loads the tank up with the plant life and makes the water cloudy and smell bad. After only a week away, the water went from pristine to swampy. Bob was fine, but now I have to think about keeping the water COOLER. this is going to be tough. I guess a smaller heat bulb will be in order.

Der Meister will Rückennummern!

This just in from Rammstein:
(find english version below)

Der Meister will Rückennummern!

The Meister requires back numbers!

Concerning our Meister t-shirt, we were pleased and surprised by the great interest shown in back numbers. We suppose now that many of you want to get prepared for the soccer EM or want to crown their local soccer match with our Meister shirt!

By the way, the first enquiries for back numbers came from England. But this was weeks before their unfortunate retirement from the desired EM placements! We would like to ask you to choose up to 3 favourite back numbers and make a click to mark them, so we can start production fast.

In the hope of making a pleasure to the wildest enthusiasts of back numbers still before Christmas, the poll will end on the December 10, 2007.

For the golfer, lifeguards and jugglers among you:
Don't worry, the shirt will also still be offered without back numbers!!!

Pic of the week: November 26, 2007

Look forward to Mondays, no matter how dreary and gray!

Teresa Noreen's pic of the week, new each Monday.

This morning I was thinking about this feature on my blog. I get many hits each week for Teresa Noreen pics, but most people kinda don't know who she is at all. I came across her on myspace. She was trying to expand her base and spread the word, she was out and about looking for model work. You would think she's been modeling a while, when you look at her, but would you believe she's former US Air Force? When she got out she wanted to take a stab at modeling without falling for all the usual pitfalls that hopefuls fall prey to. I just find it hard to believe that a swimsuit model body was being restrained by an Air Force uniform. But good for her, she's not in her 20's anymore, and still getting work and looking good.

Radiohead Out In Stores January 1st

On January 1, 2008, TBD Records/ATO Records Group will release in North America the physical version of Radiohead’s In Rainbows.

Released in download format earlier this year, In Rainbows has already received tremendous acclaim in the press. British music magazine Q wrote “In Rainbows is a brilliant work” while Rolling Stone said the album “ delivers an emotional punch that proves all other rock stars owe us an apology.” New York magazine raved, “Radiohead has made their best music in years, maybe ever.”

Produced by Nigel Godrich, In Rainbows is the band’s seventh studio album and the follow-up to 2003’s RIAA certified Platinum Hail to the Thief.

Back!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there!

I wasn't around last week. We left on the night of November 15th and headed off to Puerto Rico for a week of rest. We stayed at the same place in Cabo Rojo as we did earlier in the year. It was a rather uneventful trip, for the most part. It was warm during teh days, and comfortable in the evenings. The only drawbacks were mosquitoes and the first rental car.

Mosquito Season
The last time we went to Puerto Rico, we were pleasantly surprised by how few mosquitoes there were. So we were certainly looking forward to this trip. How many tropical lands can you go to and not get eaten alive by the flying pests? So we were shocked when we got there and mosquitoes seemed to be waiting for us. I figured out (the hard way) that the mosquitoes won't bite when you have the air conditioning on. One night we slept without a/c and the feeding frenzy went on all night. Ouch!

Honda Fit giving me fits
When we landed at Aguadilla Airport in Puerto Rico we rented a Honda Fit. If you don't know the car, it's the smallest in the Honda line, even smaller than the Civic! The second evening we were there one of the front tires was flat as a pancake. I honestly have no idea how this happened. We had driven home and there was air in the tire when the car was parked, later on, it was flat. Since we were up in the mountains, I slapped on the doughnut spare and we returned the car on Monday morning so we could get a "safe" car, one with four tires and a spare.

Guess what they gave me? A 2007 Ford Focus ZX3 SE. Essentially a newer version of my car in maroon and an automatic transmission. It was much nicer than the Fit, but not as pristine as mine, even though they had about the same miles.

Fly, Butterfly, Fly!
Stacey saw a butterfly get knocked into the water at the beach by the breeze. She ran over and scooped the little guy up and set him on the sands to dry out. After he dried out, the butterfly took to wing and fluttered off on his merry way, possibly happy to have be given a new lease on life.

That is....

Until a bird flew by and caught the fluttering insect in his beak and took off. So long little butterfly.
Other tales and pics hopefully to come...

Turtle Thursday: Did You Know?

I didn't write this week's Turtle Thursday, so I'll post a cute pic of Dante taken a week ago. It was supposed to be a pic of Silent Bob in his new tank setup, but Mrs. Baxojayz never emailed it to me, per my request.

From my email:

This week's topic:
Common Errors, Truths & Quick Fixes When It Comes To Feeding A Water Turtle.

Did You Know?

1. Pet store People Despite what they may tell you, turtles should not be fed dog or cat food (Sounds insane, but we've heard it!) Research, Research, Research!

2. Pellet-only diets are acceptable. Pellets provide many benefits, but variety is key! Supplement fruits and veggies you have in your fridge- check out our safe list below!

3. Feeding in your turtles tank. You should really try to feed in a separate container to avoid frequent changes of water and filter media. A Rubbermaid container is the easiest way to feed outside your tank.

4. Giving in to Beggars. Turtles will always beg whether you give in or not- they know you are the supplier of food! Supplement between feedings with Iceberg lettuce- its a common filler that doesn't contain much nutritional value, but will keep them content.

5. Failure of providing sufficient Calcium or vitamin D3. Turtles need both for strong bones and shells It is recommended you have a light that supplies UVA and UVB- Reptisun 5.0.

6. Hatchlings. Baby Turtles should be fed everyday for the first year of their lives. Feedings should be done in a separate container so that you do not have to frequently change the water nor the filter media. I found it best to give them as much as they cared to eat in a 10 or 15 minute window. Hatchlings tend to be more Carnivorous than adults, so make sure to check out the suggestions of live and protein-rich foods below for how to supplement accordingly. (Make sure you still give fruits and veggies at this stage!)

7. Juveniles/Adults. Once your turtle reaches the 4" mark, we recommend that you change their feeding schedule to every other day. Again, a separate container is recommended, and the all they can eat deal should still be implemented. Adults tend to become more Omnivorous, so make sure to check out the suggestions of fruits and vegetables below.

Pinhead Crickets (for smaller turtles)
Earthworms/Night Crawlers
Ghost Shrimp
Aquatic Snails/Apple Snails
Slugs
Wax Worms/Super Worms

**Be careful about Wild-Caught foods because they can carry parasites that can be transferred to your turtle. Freezing Wild-Caught foods for a month will help to kill off some parasites.

11. Fruits

Apples
Bananas
Grapes
Melon
Tomato
Strawberries
**Should be cut up in small, bite-size or match-like sticks that will be easy for the turtle to bite into and not choke on.

12. Veggies

Squash/Zucchini
Carrots
Broccoli
Greens- Red Leaf, Romaine, Collards, Kale, Dandelion Greens
**Stay away from Spinach. Make sure to cut the veggies in bite-size or match-like sticks so your turtle can eat them easily. Iceberg lettuce is a good filler, but contains little/no nutritional value!

13. Aquatic Plants

Anacharis
Duckweed
Water Hyacinth
Water Lettuce
Water Lily
These are great plants for turtles to eat.

Turtlesale provided a great resource in this. I have a feeling that the forum staff, of which I used to be one, really wrote all this. Too bad they have so much good information but implement it with the turtles they sell. [Bob]

Concussion: Conclusion

A couple weeks ago a posted an ambiguous entry called "CONCUSSION" and had the definition of what one is. Here's the tale that goes with it.

A couple weeks ago I decided to change the oil in our two Fords. Mine is easy. I reach under and it's all done in nothing flat. My wife's car is a little more work to get to, plus she had the car pulled nose first into the garage. I needed to make some space to work, as she had it pulled in so far. When I tried to stand up after making making room I clobbered myself on a shelf above my head. I'm not talking about a a typical piece of shelf material, I'm talking about a shelf made from 2 x 4's that juts out four feet from the rear wall and was about five feet above the ground.

As I stood I hit the back of my head on that shelf so hard that I went down like a sack of cement. I blacked out and when I came out of it my vision was impaired and couldn't hear from one ear. I carefully crawled out of the garage and sat on the side stoop until I felt relatively better.

I went to tell Mrs. Baxojayz about what happened, but she was more concerned with the limited daylight left at that point and didn't want to be bothered with a recap of my misfortune. So i went back into the garage and finished the job. Needless to say, I wasn't in top form and managed to crack myself in the same spot on the head a couple more times, but not as badly.

After I cleaned up I went into the house and sat to rest. I didn't feel well at all and researched what a concussion was, as it seemed like what I might've done to myself.

A concussion occurs when the head hits or is hit by an object, or when the brain is jarred against the skull, with sufficient force to cause temporary loss of function in the higher centers of the brain. The injured person may remain conscious or lose consciousness briefly, and is disoriented for some minutes after the blow. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 300,000 people sustain mild to moderate sports-related brain injuries each year, most of them young men between 16 and 25.

While concussion usually resolves on its own without lasting effect, it can set the stage for a much more serious condition. "Second impact syndrome" occurs when a person with a concussion, even a very mild one, suffers a second blow before fully recovering from the first. The brain swelling and increased intracranial pressure that can result is potentially fatal. More than 20 such cases have been reported since the syndrome was first described in 1984.

After I read that I realized that I did have a concussion, and with the extra poundings on the noggin I could've bought my farm that day in the garage. Moral of the story? Be careful, you never know what the big guy upstairs has in store for you!

The Mousetrap

From my email:

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.

What food might this contain? The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning : There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr.Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. " " I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The pig sympathized, but said, I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow and said "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."
So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital , and she returned home with a fever.

Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient.

But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock.

To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.

The farmer's wife did not get well; she died.

So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember -- when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.
